22 YO Girl Invites 86-Year-Old Widower For A Date And He Comes In His Best Suit With Flowers

Old age is a painful time to live in, if we are lucky enough to last that long. Family moves away, friends pass away and if you are lucky, you still have your life partner alive and well.

Edwin Holmes, an 86-year-old widower frequently visits the Sainsbury store in London. On one of his visits, a store worker, Ellie Walker found out that Mr. Holmes is without friends and family. She also found out that he felt very lonely.

It was Christmas, and Ellie found out that Mr. Holmes was spending Christmas alone. Mr. Holmes lost his wife in 2006 after 45 years of marriage and his daughter and grandchildren live in Australia.

She decided to be a good human being and asked Mr. Holmes out on a date. Mr. Holmes happily agreed, although he was a bit nervous. And like the perfect gentleman, he turned up with flowers, dressed in his best suit!

“I THOUGHT IF IT WAS MY GRANDDAD AND HE WAS ALONE I WOULD WANT SOMEONE TO TALK TO HIM.”

It was Mr. Holmes’ first date in 55 years and he was as nervous as a schoolchild! But in the end, they did end up having a good time.

Even though he does not spend thousands of pounds, he is still valued a lot by the staff of Sainsbury.
He enjoyed the dinner too. And he had a very gentlemanly explanation for the flowers –
“I GOT THE FLOWERS BECAUSE I WASN’T GOING TO GO EMPTY HANDED.”
No wonder both of them enjoyed each other’s company.
In an age where kids are giving up on their parents when they become old, we need people like Ellie, who go out of their way to make people like Mr. Holmes feel included.
She has restored our faith in humanity!
