Indian cricket fans can breathe a sigh of relief after pace spearhead Umesh Yadav revealed that skipper Virat Kohli is fit to take part in the remaining three days of the Ranchi Test.
"Bandage will obviously remain after an injury. But I think he's fit to play. The way he's practising at the nets it seems he's all set to come back," Yadav said when asked about Kohli's injury during the post-match press conference.
After the visitors were dismissed for a mammoth 451 runs in their first innings, Indian team started brightly and managed to score 120 runs with the loss of just one wicket, at stumps on Day 2.
However, Virat Kohli's batting remains crucial for the Indian team if the hosts are to grind out a positive result from the third Test.
The Indian captain injured his shoulder in the 40th over on Day 1, when he chased a drive from Peter Handscomb off left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja. He went off the field immediately, and did not return for the rest of the day, with Ajinkya Rahane standing in as captain.
The Indian skipper landed on his right shoulder while diving to pull the ball back before it crossed the long-on boundary. This forced him to watch the rest of the day's play from the dressing room with an ice pack strapped to his shoulder.
Before the start of second day's play, Kohli was also seen joining the team in the middle for the warm-up session ahead at the JSCA International Stadium. However, he refrained from taking part in it.
