Latest Alien: Covenant promos reveal Tennessee's chequered past and Lope's safety concerns

Following on fromtwo 'transmissions' the studio unveiled earlier this week, 20th Century Fox has released three new promos for Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi sequel Alien: Covenant. Like the previous clips, they tease the dangers humans in the film face in space but also highlight certain characters' roles on board the spacecraft, and a little bit of backstory for Danny McBride's Tennessee too.
Talking to his brother, the latter begins his transmission by saying, "I told you I would get outta Lynchburg. I bet you didn't think it was gonna be like this though, did ya? I'm about to go into hypersleep but I couldn't do that without having one more drink with my little baby brother."
"So, I smuggled a little of our favourite, onto the ship," he continues, while holding up a bottle of alcohol to the camera. "When Faris and I applied for this job, I never in a million years thought I'd even pass the background check... I have been arrested three times, I have stolen a vehicle and I also punched a police officer's horse in the mouth on St. Patrick's Day. And you guys have handed me the keys to the most expensive spaceship in history."
While Tennessee's clip is relatively light-hearted, foreshadowing how McBride is clearly going to offer up some of the film's comic relief, the other two promos are much more ominous. In one, Tess Haubrich Rosenthal's says: "It's a bit lonely here, sometimes. I don't know if I'll ever see you again. Just don't forget me, okay?" Film rule number one; doubting you'll ever see someone again out loud definitely means you're never going to see them again!

Demian Bichir stars in the last promo as Sergeant Lope, head of military security aboard the Covenant spacecraft. In it, he says: "This will be my final Covenant status report before entering hypersleep. A six-person squad might not be sufficient for a mission with so many variables. That said, we'll keep these people safe." Something tells us that promise is going to be a lot harder to keep than he might have thought when he made it...

Alien: Covenant centres on the couped-up crew of a colony spacescraft, who travel to an uncharted planet in the hopes that thousands of people back on Earth can eventually migrate there. Soon after they arrive they discover the land is dark and dangerous and the "sole" inhabitant is android David (Michael Fassbender, reprising his role from 2012 film Prometheus). We say "sole," because of course, it doesn't take them long to find out that there's also some scary-looking extraterrestrials lurking about to terrorise them too.
Also starring Carmen Ejogo, Billy Crudup, James Franco and Katherine Waterston, Alien: Covenant will be released in the UK and the US on 12 May 2017.
