Nokia announced its comeback to the mobile business with three Android smartphones and a re-imagination of the iconic Nokia 3310 at MWC back in February. While Nokia's comeback enthralled the tech community, many were disappointed that the company did not announce a proper flagship smartphone at the event.
Over the last few weeks, Nokia's upcoming flagship handset - the Nokia 9 - has been subject to various leaks and rumours and now we have a concept showcasing how the smartphone might look like.
The concept made by user Phone Designer on Facebook looks extremely striking at just 6.2mm thick and has two front speakers and a 5.5-inch display with a 2:1 aspect ratio in a rather compact body. The concept also shows the Nokia 9 with a striking bezel-less design, a dual lens camera setup at the back and a size similar to the iPhone 7.
While it is just a concept, it ties in well with rumours indicating that the Nokia 9 will come with a Quad HD 5.5-inch OLED display, Carl Zeiss cameras, a metallic unibody design and "Nokia OZO audio" enhancements.
Additionally, the Nokia 9 is expected to come with the Snapdragon 835 processor, Adreno 540 GPU, a massive 6GB of RAM, a 3,800mAh battery with QuickCharge 4 support, 64/128GB of internal storage and Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box.
On the imaging front, the smartphone is expected to come with a 22MP dual lens Carl Zeiss rear camera paired with a 12MP front facing camera for selfies. Additionally, the smartphone is set to feature an Iris Scanner like the one found on the recently released Samsung Galaxy S8, a finger print sensor and IP68 dust and water resistance.
Nokia is also rumoured to be working on two more high-end smartphones dubbed the Nokia 8 and Nokia 7 powered by Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 660 chipset which are expected to slot in below the Nokia 9 in Nokia's smartphone line-up.
The Nokia 7 is tipped to come with a fullHD display, while the Nokia 8 is expected to feature a QuadHD display. Additionally, both smartphones are expected to sport a metallic unibody design and run on Android Nougat out of the box.
The Nokia 9 is expected to be priced at around EUR 749 in European markets, $699 in the U.S. and Rs 44,999 in India. Due to Snapdragon 835 supply issues, the Nokia 9 is not expected to be launched before the third quarter of 2017 - sometime between July and August.
